Future Trends on Displacive Stress and Strain Induced Transformations in Steels

نویسندگان

چکیده

Displacive stress and strain induced transformations are those that occur when the formation of martensite or bainitic ferrite is promoted by application strain. These have been shown to be one mechanisms which mechanical properties a microstructure can improved, as they lead better ductility strength transformation plasticity effect. This review aims summarize fundamental knowledge about them, both in fully austenitic multiphase structures, pointing out issues that—according authors’ opinion—need further research. Knowing govern could enable optimize thermomechanical treatments improve final properties.

NEW BAINITIC STEELS BY DESIGN Displacive Phase Transformations

Bainitic steels are now at the forefront of new and exciting developments in steel technology. This paper discusses how phase transformation theory is being exploited in the systematic design of every aspect of the new alloys, emphasising the immense influence that Professor Wayman has had on the development of the subject [1]. Technology of Bainitic Steels Gone are the days when industry could...

PREDICTION OF CRITICAL STRESS AND STRAIN FOR THE ONSET OF DYNAMIC RECRYSTALLIZATION IN PLAIN CARBON STEELS

The aim of the present study is the prediction of critical conditions (including critical strain and flow stress) for the initiation of dynamic recrystallization during thermo-mechanical processing of plain carbon steels. For this propose, torsion tests were conducted at different temperature (1050, 1100 and 1150˚C) and strain rates (0.002, 0.02 and 0.2/s). All flow curves showed a peak st...

Properties of Fine–Grained Steels Generated by Displacive Transformation

It has been possible in recent times to make large quantities of steels in which the controlling scale is 20 nm or less, i.e., comparable to that of carbon nanotubes. The mechanical properties of such steels are abnormal. For example, in some cases the ductility vanishes as the strength increases, whereas in others the ductility almost entirely consists of uniform plastic strain. Some of the st...

Some phase transformations in steels

About 70% of all the steel compositions that are currently used have been developed within the last 10 years. Novel iron alloys are being conceived, manufactured, and marketed with a regularity which has confounded many prophecies. Phase transformation theory has contributed to the successful development of steels. This overview will begin therefore with a discussion of the atomic mechanism by ...

Transformation induced plasticity assisted steels: stress or strain affected martensitic transformation?

Transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) assisted steels contain a small quantity of carbon enriched retained austenite, which transforms into martensite during the course of plastic deformation. Transformation of this kind can be induced by both stress and plastic strain. The detailed mechanism by which the martensite is induced is different for these two scenarios. An attempt is made here to ...
